Wellington II

Last night there was a 'dinner' at the hostel (apparently every Sunday...) and it consisted of pretty bland sausages and floppy toast, but since I had treated myself to lunch earlier it was okay - and above all, free!

After a short night (due to the chattering in the hallway rather than a party, as it was Sunday evening and not much going on), I strengthened myself with a lamb mint pie (there are pies everywhere here, paradise!) and headed straight to the Weta Workshops. Many props and models from movies like Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, District 9, Kingdom of Heaven, etc. were made and designed there. Unfortunately, I hadn't booked in advance, so there was no space available today. Tough luck... The photos are from the small museum in the souvenir shop.

So I had to change my plans and I visited the National Museum instead. The museum is very modern and above all free. It showcases the history and culture of the Maori people, the different waves of immigration, and the role of New Zealanders in the Battle of Gallipoli. I still don't understand why this particular battle is remembered at every corner, as well as the rest of World War I and World War II. I guess Gerre will have to explain it to me...

In front of the museum, there is an area called the Bushwalk, which vividly explains the nature and formation of New Zealand's landscape and is intended to remain as a small biotope in the middle of the city.

That's about it for today. I'll be spending the last night on the North Island at Wellington Holiday Park and tomorrow I'm off to the South Island.
