Good morning and welcome to Valencia 😊
After a hearty breakfast, we arrived in Valencia at around 9 o'clock. Today, our plan was to visit the old town of this wonderful city. I had already gathered some inspiration from the lecture a few days ago. However, since the old town is said to be 8 km away, we decided to take the Aida shuttle.
While getting ready for our shore excursion, we noticed extreme noise next to our balcony and were curious. After all, today we didn't dock on the port side but on the starboard side. Next to us was now a huge tanker and as soon as we saw it, the captain announced that we would be refueled and asked us not to smoke on the outer decks and balconies.
Alright, now let's get off the ship and take the shuttle. About 20 minutes later, we arrived at a bridge that leads directly to the old town. From afar, we could already see the twin towers at El Carme. We strolled through the large square La Seu, through narrow alleys, one building more impressive than the other, until we reached the Cathedral of Valencia. It is the landmark of the city with its massive companion, the octagonal bell tower El Micalet.
While continuing our walk, I discovered a small stand. Since I paid attention during the Valencia lecture, I knew that there had to be a special "milk" drink. Orxata de Xufes (horchata made from tiger nuts) is something you should try. So, we got a small cup to taste it. My husband and son didn't like it that much, but I found the taste very interesting and it could be drunk really cold, although I don't need to have it all the time 😉. Continuing through the alleys, across the squares, we stopped at a small cafe where we took a break with coffee and waffles. On the way back to the shuttle, we even ran into "Bumblebee" 🤣. However, I was particularly impressed by the huge trees with their roots, standing in a kind of park. Unfortunately, the "City of Arts and Sciences" was too far for us, so I could only capture a few moments through the telescope on the ship.
At 6:30 p.m., we went to Bella Donna for dinner and then went to play active bingo again. We also met our acquaintances (there was another family on board with us who comes from our area, about 18 km away) when they were buying their bingo cards. I think we infected them 🤣 and so we played together that evening. It was especially fun because the two of them actually won and we had a lot of fun 🤣.
Together, we went to the "Alpenglow" on the pool deck, where we danced and partied with great enthusiasm until 1:30 in the morning. So, if someone ever tells me that cruises are for retirees and older people - definitely not on AIDA 🍹💃🏼🕺🏻🥳
