Fraser Island

To finally continue south, we drove 800 kilometers after our tour. We spent two days in Agnes Water - a small, nice surfer town. There we also tried surfing for three hours - it was cool!

After that, we made our way to Rainbow Beach. A small town about 400 kilometers further south and from where many people start their tour to Fraser Island! You can also do it from Hervey Bay.

We booked our tour with Happy Travels in Cairns a while ago. It included one night before and one night after the tour in Rainbow Beach, and a three-day, two-night tour of Fraser Island. We slept in a camp, so we camped. Fraser Island is said to be the largest sand island in the world. Our tour consisted of 32 people. To be able to drive on this island at all, you need a four-wheel drive vehicle. The great thing about the tour was that you got your own car with eight people (Land Cruiser - Toyota) and you were allowed to drive yourself! It was mega cool - when do you ever get to drive a car on the beach and off-road on an island? We thought it was really great!

First, we took the ferry across to get to Lake Mc Kenzie, where we could cool off. It was a beautiful blue lake with white sand in front of it. Then we went into the rainforest to eat wraps and take a little walk afterwards. Afterwards, you had the opportunity to fly over the island in a small plane, which we took advantage of. It was worth it because you could see the different lakes with their amazing colors, as well as the huge sand dunes and large forests.

When we arrived at the camp, we first set up our tent, which was cute and cozy - you could even sleep quite well in it. In the evenings, there was barbecue, delicious 😊👍!

The next day, the tour continued and we visited the Champagne Pools. These are natural pools right by the cliffs where the waves splash when they break on the rocks. Then we went to Indian Head. We climbed up it and had a great view from up there! You could see sharks and manta rays swimming from there. After that, we went to a river where you could float - it was beautiful!

In the evening at the camp, we ate together again and sat by the campfire, as you should 🎉.

On the third day, we had to leave the camp. We did a hike to another lake. The way there took 45 minutes one way and we had to walk over huge sand dunes. The sand can get pretty hot. But it was worth it and it was a nice ending to the tour!

We had a great experience with lots of fun. We can definitely recommend it.

Now we're in Brisbane for four nights and exploring the city! See you soon...
