Today we slept in and were able to enjoy freshly baked scones for breakfast. The woman we are currently staying with baked them in the morning. Afterwards, we went to Ballarat to visit a gold museum. In the state capital of Victoria, there was a big gold discovery early on. Many citizens were caught up in the gold rush and dug for gold. It was a very hard and physically demanding job that often ended in failure. Women and children also had to dig for gold to increase the chances of success. We got a glimpse of daily life back then in the exhibition. The shop in the gold museum was also very nice to see. There was a lot of jewelry and other souvenirs for sale.
Since the weather today was very rainy, we only took a short walk through Ballarat and then returned to our accommodation.
During the walk, we encountered many students in school uniforms. Many of the school uniforms looked very nice. Many wore a polo shirt with a college jacket. However, there are also uniforms that you are really glad you don't have to wear in Germany. The shoes often look like black lumps. The school dress also looks more like a nightgown. The boys often wear a white shirt with a tie here. It always looks unusual when they still play soccer after school.
Upon arriving at our accommodation, we ended the last evening of our trip with a delicious meal. We packed our things and played a little round of Yahtzee.
