Meeru Island (Meerufenfushi Island) is located in the North Male Atoll and can be reached by speedboat from Male Airport in about an hour. Meeru is slightly larger than typical egg-shaped Maldivian islands, which makes it easier for Maldives beginners. But that doesn't mean it's any less beautiful. The beaches, the sea, and the vegetation are typically picturesque for the Maldives.
We booked all-inclusive and were very satisfied. There are two main restaurants on the island, which are assigned depending on the bungalow's position (north or south). The food was very varied, and we never felt like we had seen the same dish twice. The overly sweet desserts rounded everything off.
The beaches on Meeru are beautiful, just like on almost every other island in the Maldives. Long, white sandy beaches, palm trees in the background, and turquoise waters characterize the island's landscape. I highly recommend taking a walk around the island!
There are several types of bungalows on the island. Starting from the simple "garden rooms" in the middle of the island to Jacuzzi water villas in the lagoon. Surrounded by palm trees and only 20 meters from the beach, we had booked the Jacuzzi Beach Villa, which we were very happy with afterwards. For those who are not sure if they want to stay on stilts over the water, it's the perfect choice!
As expected, snorkeling or diving trips and sunset cruises on boats are offered, as well as tours to neighboring islands (Island Hopping).
A very special experience was the secluded sandbank - it really gives you that Robinson Crusoe feeling!
For many, that may sound boring, but I highly recommend it! Watching a sunset in the Indian Ocean is something special. Of course, we were unlucky with the weather the first time ;-)
We were there in June. Out of a total of 13 days, 7 were nice, the rest were sometimes cloudy, sometimes rainy. But it was always pleasantly warm (feels like 40 degrees). But if you want to play it safe (and spend a few thousand euros more), you should travel from February to April!
Meeru was fantastic - we'll be back!
Dreamy white sandy beaches and water bungalows in the background.
