Update 16.02. + 17.02.
Now we have actually finished New Zealand and have already spent two days in Melbourne.
We landed in Melbourne at 10:30 PM. We didn't arrive at the hostel until 1:30 AM. It would have been really easy to get there, but the trams had already stopped running and after some wandering around, we decided to take a taxi.
We spent the first day, Friday, 16.02., in the city centre after a very late breakfast, which we still had to buy. We were at the Yarra River, near the Olympic stadium, and in various shops. We spent the evening at the bar 'Riverland' enjoying an Aperol Spritz.
The second day was a bit more active. In the afternoon, we visited the Queen Victoria Market. Three large halls were filled with one stall after another. Two of them were completely full of junk, clothes, bags, shoes, jewelry, towels, and more. The third hall was filled with the shouts of market vendors loudly offering their vegetables and fruits.
But we were strong and only bought much-needed sun hats.
From 7 PM, the entire city centre was closed off for White Night. This event is advertised as the event of the year with food trucks, music, exhibitions, and other entertainment.
After we had seen everything, we were quite disappointed. Even though there were some really good musicians and dancers, it was not enough for all the people who were out and about.
