A Day in Venice: An Adventure Full of Surprises

What a day!

I got up at dawn to catch the first train to Venice. And my expectations were far surpassed! As soon as I arrived, the city overwhelmed me with its unique charm: the sparkling canals, the shimmering lagoon, the elegant gondolas, the countless bridges, and majestic churches... simply enchanting! - and without my parents, I didn't have to visit EVERY single church from the inside. Greetings at this point XD

Getting up early was definitely justified!
I strolled along the canal while bravely defending my breakfast against an armada of pigeons that wanted to seize my croissant like small, feathered pirates. During this time, I discovered not only the typical sights but also many hidden churches, small bridges, statues, galleries, and Venetian buildings that brought a smile to my face. Every step opened up a new perspective, and I progressed slowly – but hey, who wants to rush when they're in Venice? Despite my leisurely pace, I managed to walk around the entire island. And by the end of the day, I had an incredible 40,000 steps on the counter! Yes, I was just as shocked as you are. But don’t worry, I knew how to help myself and visited three ice cream shops in a row. It just tasted too delicious – and I needed the energy for my further adventures. Equally important was the regular hydration, as I was almost melting in the heat!
At lunchtime, the sun blazed down so mercilessly that I bought a new sunhat in St. Mark's Square. It was quite a feat because the canals had sneaked over their banks, and half of the square looked like a swimming pool. Maybe a few rubber ducks could have lightened the oppressive atmosphere! Despite all the caution, I had to suffer a slight sunburn. The sun was just too generous with its rays – the morning application of sunscreen didn't help much anymore.
After ten hours of exploration, I set off for dinner. I chose Spaghetti 'Alfredo', right by the canal and accompanied by live music. I wonder if the musician was also named Alfredo? It was the perfect conclusion to a perfect day with a refreshing Aperol to wind down the evening. In the dark, I made my way back to the train station and from there to Verona.
Now I'm about to fall into bed and dream of all the beautiful impressions Venice has given me. A day full of magic and enjoyment – and I can hardly wait to come back!
