Tool of the week: Solid Shampoo

Hi everyone! For a while now, the idea has been floating around in my head that I could introduce one of my little helpers and travel companions to you from time to time. The tools that can make this kind of travel so much easier. You may already know some of them, but maybe there is an idea for you or as a non-backpacker it is simply interesting to read about the little problems we have to deal with.

I hereby declare Solid Shampoo as the Tool of the week!

While reading numerous blogs as preparation for this trip, I came across Solid Shampoo and fell in love with it. The Solid Shampoo combines several invaluable advantages. It is incredibly small and light. Smaller than the palm of my hand, it weighs only 45g and lasts as long as 2-3 shampoo bottles, which is 2-3 MONTHS. As a backpacker, I am always looking for the solution with the smallest weight and the smallest pack size, so solid shampoo is perfect. I actually managed to make it last for 2 months with my first piece. Isn't that incredible? Another advantage is that it is not a liquid, so it can also be taken in hand luggage for a weekend trip.

Attention, environmentally friendly and animal lovers! Solid Shampoo is extremely environmentally friendly as it is fully consumed and does not produce empty shampoo bottles (plastic waste) all the time. The small aluminum container can be bought once, but is not necessary for home use. The best part is: solid shampoo does not contain silicone, synthetic preservatives, or petroleum products. It is much better for the hair, as the silicones that coat the hair may make it more supple in the first moment, but they dry it out in the long run and cause a yo-yo effect. So, a solid shampoo should be used over a longer period of time to give the hair and scalp the opportunity to adjust. However, be careful, there is a difference to hair soap. This is vegan in any case and would be preferable. However, it often leaves a soapy hair feeling and requires rinsing with a vinegar rinse. Not practical for my trip.

With hair soaps, as with all things, there are differences depending on which manufacturer you buy from. Some are vegan, others are "only" organic, some contain fragrances, others do not. This is certainly a matter of taste or conviction. In the spring, I ordered test pieces from Sauberkunst. The handling was surprisingly easy, the smell was great, my hair was easy to comb and shiny. In the first week, my scalp became greasier more quickly, but that quickly went away. Completely thrilled, I then ordered a Solid Shampoo from the soap manufacturer because their aluminum can seemed practical to me. The shampoo does what it is supposed to do, it smells good and keeps my hair clean for a long time. However, after showering, my hair is always quite tangled. Very annoying. And because it annoyed me in South Africa as well, I bought a second solid shampoo from Lush in Johannesburg (on the right in the picture). After Nepal, shampoo bar No. 1 was used up and I started using the Lush product. But just like the shampoo from the soap manufacturer, it smells good and makes the hair nice and clean, but also a bit greasy. That's why I'm already looking forward to Melanie bringing me a solid shampoo from Sauberkunst when we meet in Indonesia in December. My solid shampoo will last me until then. The efficiency is simply unbeatable!!! Solid shampoo is therefore also something for savvy savers. Actually, for everyone.
