The highlight today were these two cakes. I wanted to buy them when we were here for the first time. But the rest of the family had prevailed back then and opted for other cakes. They are so delicious that I already know I will miss them.
But from the beginning. Today we were really looking forward to the sushi from the local supermarket. Since we knew that the sushi would be delivered at 1 pm, we played it safe and left at 12 pm. We live about 15 minutes away from the supermarket. But as so often, everything turned out differently. We were stuck in traffic and for a long time! Luckily, there was a runway right next to us, on which both sports planes landed and took off as well as parachutists. So the one and a half hours didn't seem so long to us. But when it became more and more likely that we wouldn't get any sushi, I had a sorry sight sitting next to me. However, we quickly became humble when we saw a boy of Flora and Mattis' age walking through the stationary cars in the heat (over 30 degrees) and selling water bottles. It made us realize that we were only missing out on sushi.
With screeching tires, I stopped in front of the supermarket entrance at 1:30 pm. Flora ran in as fast as she could because hope dies last. When I entered the building a short time later, I saw from Flora's face that there were no more sushi. But the saleswoman told us that the next delivery would come in an hour and a half. We could easily pass the time at the supermarket. When we arrived at the sushi counter at the specified time, the same saleswoman said she didn't know exactly when they would come. That seemed suspicious to me, so I asked someone else. This person was so kind and asked the boss right away. Unfortunately, no more sushi would come today and she referred us to the next day. I explained to her that due to the heavy traffic, we would not be able to come on time. Therefore, I asked her to reserve some for us. To our relief, she promised to reserve four packs of sushi for us. And once again, it was worth asking at least one more person.
Since we were in the supermarket for a long time, we were now very hungry. Luckily, there was a fast-food restaurant in the building. When we entered, I couldn't believe my eyes. I saw the same list of sushi offerings as in the supermarket. I immediately asked if they still had sushi. The saleswoman nodded and I was able to buy at least one pack of sushi. If we had known that beforehand, we could have saved ourselves the wait and gone straight to the restaurant, because there would certainly have been all sushi variations available at that time.
But shoulda coulda woulda.
On the way home, I stopped at a mini supermarket, as they are called here. These are small convenience stores where you can buy everything, including delicious cakes. Flora and I now had the difficult choice. Since we couldn't decide which cake to take, we asked the saleswoman, who patiently waited for our discussion, if it would be possible to divide two cakes in half. Since the cakes had different prices, she said it wouldn't be possible. When we suggested to her to simply average the price, she looked at us puzzled and asked her boss. He thought for a moment and then gave his okay.
The men were eagerly awaiting us. They were hungry. So we had a bit of sushi and cake for dinner.
Since this accommodation has a washing machine, we spent the rest of the day mainly doing laundry.
