Granada and the beautiful Alhambra - January 15th

Опубликовано: 17.01.2020

The morning is once again fresh, but the feet make it without egg water...! We have another coffee before we pack everything up and leave the beautiful National Park. We drive lonely country roads through absolute wilderness until we reach the A-92 towards Granada. There is not much going on here either and it goes up and down, the trucks have to work hard and drag themselves up the right lane with hazard lights on. We pass endless olive trees, lined up on both sides of the highway. The landscape here is very barren, but also very beautiful. In the distance, high mountains stretch out and after a short drive, the snow-covered Sierra Nevada reveals itself. It's ski season here, which is hard to imagine when driving through the dry landscape in bright sunshine down here, but even here the thermometer sometimes only shows 7 degrees. We reach Granada around noon and the navigation system wants to send us in the opposite direction of the signs to the Alhambra...mmmhhh....we better follow the signs.

But then we decide to have something to eat before and leave the highway towards the city and then follow the dumb navigation system...mistake...big mistake! Because it sends you through the whole of Granada to the old town, but you are not allowed to drive through it, clever...the Alhambra is right behind it...but we can't get there, great! So we drive through Granada again, once around the outside, to then reach our destination from the other side...45 minutes later...! But it doesn't matter, we made it! In the high season, you often have to pre-book tickets because it is one of Europe's biggest tourist attractions, but we are lucky and can buy two tickets at the counter. A truly impressive complex and an even more impressive architecture. What they built there hundreds of years ago and with what exquisite details, is hardly imaginable! The entire complex covers about 13 hectares and there are different buildings and gardens that you can visit. The most impressive are the Nasrid palaces, I wouldn't want to do the stonework there...you need a lot of patience for that...which I don't have...!

We walk our feet off and feast our eyes on the Moorish art. Just before six o'clock, we leave the city and drive for just under half an hour to a small campsite on the outskirts. Here we find a nice spot with a view of the Sierra Nevada, which is still shimmering golden in the last rays of the sun. But when the sun is completely gone, the temperatures rise significantly and we decide to have dinner at the adjacent restaurant. After that, I'm so tired that I just manage to brush my teeth and immediately lie down. Tonight, we better take the sheepskins to bed, let's see how cold it gets!
