Oktoberfest and Whistler - Plans

Опубликовано: 18.10.2018

18.10.

My current accommodation, a small Airbnb room in the basement apartment in East Vancouver and about 30 minutes drive from Downtown, is not exactly luxurious; especially not when considering the price-performance ratio, but at least I have some privacy here and good WiFi.

The last two weekends I worked at the Oktoberfest in a German restaurant.

If the Oktoberfest in Munich is the same as the one in Vancouver, I would not recommend anyone to go to Munich and pay a lot of money for beer and a seat on a brown beer bench, unless you have a preference for Jürgen Drews, Helene Fischer or corpulent women in dirndls that are too tight. At least the pay is decent.

After a while of unsuccessful job and apartment search in Vancouver, I decided to go to a ski resort as soon as possible. Whistler, the largest ski resort in Canada and host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, is a good choice as it is only 2 hours away from Vancouver and has an excellent reputation. I have already booked a hostel for the first few days, and with a bit of luck, I will quickly find a job and accommodation and ideally spend the winter there.

If that doesn't work out, I'll have to consider going to another ski resort or maybe to Toronto.

By the way, the possession and consumption of cannabis was legalized in Canada yesterday. This revolutionary change in the law by the government resulted in a big green party, which I naturally joined as a curious tourist and celebrated. 😉

So now I am enjoying my last days in Vancouver, working at the Oktoberfest one last time this weekend, and will soon be in touch again.

Greetings to Frankfurt 🌆
