Through the inland to Salto

Опубликовано: 01.12.2018

Forced by the weather (the rain had stopped, but it was quite cold), we left the coast of Uruguay and embarked on the journey through the inland to Salto. Here we make a short stop at the hot springs.

From now on, we will probably spend a lot of time on the road until we reach the Iguazu Falls.

Many people had already told us that hardly anyone lives in the inland. Except for 3-4 big cities, that's true. The inland is characterized by large farms with pasture for cows. Here live the gauchos (cowboys) who take care of the numerous cattle on their horses. They looked pretty surprised at our camper.

Unfortunately, the roads were hardly built and very muddy due to the long rain, so our travel speed was only 20 km/h. Adventurous bridge constructions made our heart skip a beat. Egon is pretty dirty now, but we made it!

While crossing the inland, various animals were sunning themselves on the road. Uruguay is a very green country with lagoons and swamps everywhere. So we saw snakes, iguanas, and turtles on the road during our journey.

Currently, we are at a beautiful state campground near Salto. Most camping sites in the inland are very nice and free (probably to attract tourists to the country). Here we dry our wet clothes and clean the bus thoroughly (there is sand everywhere).
