Is this the way to Amarillo?

The Route 66 has hidden itself well. We find it in Sapulpa near Tulsa and lose it in Arcadia 60 km later. It takes you through a different America than the highways. You get a sense of daily life and also of the history.

The weather remains changeable with heavy rains, which evaporate quickly. The landscape is still very green with huge flood areas. No trace of the dust bowl Oklahoma yet.

In the evening we land in Elk City and actually find a great walking path along a reservoir, where we can admire the most beautiful cloud formations in the sunset.

During dinner we met a couple from Des Moines, South Dakota. They had just come from South Texas from their granddaughter's graduation ceremony. They always stay at this campsite after a 500 km drive and have another 500 km ahead of them until they are home.

There was pizza. It didn't taste bad, but had very little to do with the dish we know by that name. The dough was exposed to a heating coil from above on a rotating plate. The rotation was necessary because the coil only covered a small part of the pizza.
