#20 A Backpackers Dreamjob

Опубликовано: 27.01.2019

We have both done different jobs and gained experience in various areas, but what we are doing now is our absolute dream job.

I regret not having come up with this idea earlier. For the first time, we are also working together. Okay, it's not a real job. We don't earn any money, but we save between $100 and $200 per week without having to do much for it.

What are we doing? We are house and pet sitters. More specifically, we are taking care of two dogs and looking after the house while the owners are on vacation.

If you're interested in a job like this, you can find more information on the website https://www.aussiehousesitters.com.au.

I have to admit, it's not that easy to get a job. It takes time and patience, but once you get a job, it's all worth it. I contacted about 30 homeowners and ended up with two housesitting jobs.

Now we are in Home Hill, have two Staffordshire Bull Terriers, a two-story house with a garden, and the best part: a swimming pool.

The homeowners seem to be pretty laid-back. Basically, they don't know anything about us. Only our names and that we come from Germany.

Two hours before their departure, we saw them for the first time. We were told how to handle the dogs, which plants in the garden need to be watered, etc. Then we had lunch together and they went on vacation.

It's not like we're just lazing around all the time here, we have a few tasks that we have to do daily. But it's worth it for us. Instead of sleeping in a tent, we can finally sleep in a house again and use all the appliances. Being able to toast toast again, having an oven, microwave, and dishwasher, and not having to go to a laundromat to do the laundry. It's real luxury for us. It's also great that the owners left us a full fridge, a full freezer, wine, and beer. The words "help yourself" often used by Australians always sound like music to our ears.

Our daily routine is as follows:

5:00 a.m. Wake up and have coffee

5:30 a.m. Take the dogs for a walk

6:30 a.m. Possibly sleep again

Between 8 and 9 a.m. have breakfast, then do morning exercises

At the latest at 10:00 a.m. pool time

12:00 p.m. Have lunch, then back to the pool

From around 3:00 p.m. Netflix

6:00 p.m. Dinner + feed the dogs

7:00 p.m. Water plants and lawn

8:00 p.m. Take the dogs for a walk

9:00 p.m. Netflix

So we have about 2 to 3 hours of work per day, depending on the weather. It has happened before that it rained, then the dog walk was shorter and watering plants was canceled completely, and we had more time for Netflix. We love our job here and we have a lot of fun.
