Cradock - in the middle of nowhere

January 21, 2018: We finally leave the Garden Route / coast and drive inland, as we will be flying on from Johannesburg in five days. We still have about 1200 km ahead of us and the next stop is in Cradock (250 km) with an overnight stay planned. Cradock is a city in the middle of nowhere and completely deserted on this Sunday. Armed security forces, gloomy figures are seen or beggars are directly targeted. A gloomy atmosphere arises and we prefer to spend the afternoon comfortably by the pool. In the evening we go out again and realize that not a single restaurant is open. We end up at KFC and have Chicken Wings for everyone. Since we order too much, we give a box of Chicken Wings and fries to a beggar who is wandering around our cars and devours them gratefully. Fa insists on bringing them to him with Papa. The topic of poverty leaves its mark, even on the kids.
