I spent last week at Doris' in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Doris produces her own wine, which she then sells in organic markets or at market stalls.
So every morning, except Sunday, we went to her vineyard, which is about 25km away. There we cleaned up after the winter, meaning we removed the weeds and pruned the grapevines. It was quite hard work, made even more difficult by the constant sunshine. Day by day, I became slower, maybe because I'm not used to so much sun.
On Wednesday, we filled several containers with wine in 5L or 3L sizes. Organizing the whole process was really hard work, as the filling facility was even farther away than the vineyard. The day itself was very stressful, as we also had to adhere to the facility's opening hours and the wine storage was again a good half hour away.
On my last evening, there was a desire to cook something German. So the other wwoofers who help Doris and a few friends were invited, and we chatted and sang while enjoying good German food and French wine. A successful farewell.
This morning, I continued further south to Miramas, a town near the Carmargue, where I will stay until Holy Week.
