Hello everyone!
Today we completed the rest of the journey and drove to England.
The whole thing wasn't as easy as we thought... After a little over three hours of driving, we arrived at the EuroTunnel terminal. First, we went to the wrong counter - the one where you should already have a ticket... We quickly pressed the information button and got help. Now, it turned out that there was an express surcharge to be paid on site... That means: online, the tickets are around 80 euros, but on site it's more than 200 euros!!! We decided not to pay this and turned around. However, we also failed in our attempt to book online... There were no more tickets for less than 180 euros and the earliest available was for tomorrow! Change of plan: We decided to take the ferry. In the end, it cost us 150 euros, but we could still travel today. It's not like we're in a hurry, but if you're already at the terminal, you want to continue, after all :).
Once we arrived at the ferry, everything went more or less smoothly :).
We went through the first customs, then the second. After that, a staff member searched our camper and we were allowed to continue to the ticket control. What we didn't know was that there are different providers... Of course, we were in the wrong one... The inspector sent us back to another line, slightly snippy. Since there were already a few vehicles behind us, she reluctantly opened the barrier and told us in an annoyed tone to park the camper further up and walk to the correct counter. That's what we did :).
With the ticket, we drove to our spot in the line (actually the right one!) and waited to be directed. Then everything went pretty quickly: up onto the boat, parked, and soon the ferry set sail.
We lay down for a moment, took a shower, and walked around on deck. Now, here's the thing... You can always get from the cars to the deck, but somehow not the other way around... With all our strength, we pulled the door open a crack to operate the mechanism from the other side. We succeeded! The door opened and we could get to our camper. Soon, we were on the move again. We're on land! The hatch opened and one vehicle after another rolled out. This process also went quickly and smoothly.
Our first impression of England: DRIVING ON THE LEFT!!!! Noooo.... Well... Yes :).
The country is beautiful, you can already see the huge white cliffs. Then we drove through beautiful fields with lots of animals. In a side street, another driver signaled for us to stop. We complied with this request and what he wanted was to warn us that there are many children further up the road! Apparently, people still look out for each other here :). We thanked him and drove on carefully. We passed the children and soon arrived at the coast, where we will be staying for today. The architecture is exactly as you would imagine: so British! Hihi
Really nice to look at, but only for us to look at :).
We walked along the beach a bit, apparently it's low tide. You won't believe what we found! Ammunition and ammunition casings that were pressed into a stone. Could they have been pressed into the stone by water pressure?
So, back from our little walk, we are now enjoying the view from our camper and looking forward to the continuation of our adventure in England :).
See you tomorrow!
