Day 12 - 01/07/2022 - Beach and City Madison

Publicat: 25.08.2022

Last night we had a bit of a scare as Marie knocked on our bedroom door all excited. She said she saw a man at the window knocking on it. We couldn't see anything like that and left all the doors open so we could hear each other. I think there are several raccoons causing trouble here, searching for food. At least we had seen some during the day.

After waking up at around 9:30 AM, it was already 26 degrees Celsius, we had a leisurely breakfast. After breakfast, we wanted to see the coastal landscape and drove east to Madison and Clinton. We first went to the beach at Hammonasett National Beach Park. It was incredibly long but also very, very crowded. It was over 30 degrees Celsius and the sun was scorching. We found a free spot on the sand, spread out our towels and umbrella, and tried to relax. Occasionally, we went into the sea to cool off. We watched the hustle and bustle and it was funny to see how different ethnic groups behaved. From the Latinos playing Spanish summer hits to the Africans with large family canopy tents and a cooking pot being carried on the head by the mom.

After two hours, we had enough of the heat and moved on. I'm not a big fan of crowds like that. We continued along the coast and admired the beautiful villas right by the sea. We spontaneously decided to relocate our retirement home here. :-D

Then we stopped in Madison at Starbucks and got ourselves a delicious frappuccino. Pauline got an iced matcha tea and Marie got a cold brew with oat milk.

Then we headed back to the house, but not before doing some shopping. Anne and I decided to quickly go to Jacobs Beach to jump into the water. The kids went into town for a short while. Around 7 PM, we went to the harbor and had delicious wraps and burgers at 'Pa's Place', right by the water, enjoying the beautiful evening weather.
