A victory lap in honor of your loved ones

Publicat: 02.11.2023

Our next adventure is supposed to take us to southern England, but before the idea becomes a plan we change our plans. Because we have visitors and since we really like our family and friends, we are changing our route, which to be honest doesn't exist yet anyway. From the Netherlands it's not far to Belgium, a country that we haven't paid much attention to yet, and so it so happens that Antwerp becomes our first stop there. A stroll through the old town and the center allows us to give the city the rating “worth seeing”. The many old buildings, the beautiful train station and, last but not least, the fabulous chocolates that we taste convince us. A look at the jewelers' shop windows is also a must, as Antwerp is not the diamond capital for nothing. We prefer to invest our money in culinary pursuits.

From Antwerp we continue to Boom, a suburb that some people may know because of the “Tomorrowland Festival”. The festival is already over, but it is still omnipresent in the park because some of the art that characterizes this festival is there permanently. During a sunny walk we can marvel at the trolls and the bridge with its small inscriptions and also witness a bicycle race. The little excursion was rounded off by a mobile that was completely unknown to us in Austria, the ice cream truck. Christian is as happy as a little child about his first chocolate ice cream from the ice cream truck. Spoiler. It won't be the last.

The next day it gets hot. Due to the summer in the north, one of our first summer weeks this year, which is why we head towards the sea. We enjoy a few days in Blankenberge and Bredene by the sea before we drive to Membre in the Ardennes, including an overnight stay in Solre-le-Château, France. There we enjoy the last few days of heat on a small nature campsite right on the Semois River between mountains and forests. And here he was again. We can hear the ice cream truck ringing in the distance and it actually comes straight to the campsite every evening. Christian is overjoyed and makes plans to become an ice cream truck driver himself.

After the temperatures have returned to normal in September, we drive via Saint Hubert to Eupen in the Eifel, where we can spend a few nice days with Christine's parents at the reservoir. We hike around the reservoir, through the forest and take a short trip to the town of Monschau, which with its old charm invites you to stroll, before our paths part again all too quickly.

From there we go straight to Amsterdam, which closes the circle for us and we embrace the next visit. After a bit of sightseeing - by now we could almost hire ourselves as tour guides in the city - we head to Bremen via Zurich in Friesland. This city also impresses us with its charm, the town musicians and coffee houses. We stroll through the market square, through Böttcherstrasse, along the Weser and stop for typical Bremen food in the old Schnoor district. Because there has to be a bit of culture, Christian doesn't miss a tour of the Bremen Story House.

It's not far from Bremen to Hamburg, which is why a short detour here is also worthwhile. Even though it's not our first time visiting the city, we keep discovering new things. In addition to the Reperbahn and St. Pauli, we especially take a closer look at the Schanzenviertel with its many pubs, restaurants and bars.

So and where do we actually want to go? The message from our dear friends is that we always rave so much about Denmark, we should show them the beautiful places. The goal is the place where you should never leave, loyal readers already know it. So we go from Hamburg to Puttgarden where we take the ferry to Rødby. We therefore decide to start in the south and go to the southernmost point to Gedser. We were here at the beginning of our trip when we translated from Rostock and 3 months later this place enchants us again. The hygge feeling immediately returns. We spend 2 nights here and then drive through to Tisvidelje. We stay on the Danish Riviera for the rest of the week and visit parts of the beach between Tisvidelje and Hundested that are still unknown to us. After 2 wonderful weeks with our friends, including Prosecco on the beach, as there is always something to celebrate, the two of them are going back home.

We remain loyal to Denmark and commute comfortably around the island, return to our favorite place, see the cities of Sorø and Ringsted before we drive on to the capital Copenhagen, where we pick up the next friend from the airport and Christine with her three Can move to the hotel for nights. Since we have only known Copenhagen from a day trip so far, this time we have more time and can really soak up the flair of the city. The weather is beautiful in autumn, we visit street food markets, stroll through the alleys and parks, are briefly disappointed because Tivoli Park in its Halloween splendor won't open again for a few days, console ourselves with what are probably the best cinnamon rolls in the city and are really lucky because we are get the last three that day. Then we put our friend back on the plane, Christine moves back into the motorhome and we are so grateful for the time with our loved ones and leave the north with wonderful impressions and moments. Now we are ready for the new adventure south...
