Brisbane (3 nights)

Publicat: 08.12.2017

In Brisbane we originally booked accommodation through Airbnb for 2 nights. But since we liked the city so much, we extended our stay for another night.

Before returning the campervan, we dropped off our luggage at the accommodation, so we could start sightseeing directly afterwards.

We took the CityCat (boats that are part of Brisbane's public transportation) directly to Southbank. There is a beautiful waterfront promenade there with the Streets Beach. It is a very large, well-designed, and free outdoor pool along the promenade. Behind it, there are several restaurants, bars, etc.

Afterwards, we walked along Queen St. (main shopping street) on the other side of the river. Many shops and a shady shopping street, highly recommended to escape the heat. On Wednesday, there was a small market with some stalls (mainly food) at the other end of the Victoria Bridge.

For dinner, we went to Miels, a very good burger restaurant/diner. Absolutely recommended!!!

Our accommodation was in Kelvin Grove, so we walked to our accommodation or into the city daily. On the way, we passed by King George Square and Roma Street Parkland. The square was beautifully lit in the evening with Christmas lights, and the public parks in Brisbane are truly beautiful! The City Botanic Gardens located on the riverbank are also highly recommended.

The next day, after a round trip on the free CityHopper boat (slower than the CityCat and stops at the typical sightseeing points), we spent a relaxed day at Southbank, Streets Beach for swimming. In the evening, we had sushi, also very delicious. In general, dining out in Australia is cheap and good (compared to Germany).

The following day, there was unfortunately a strong storm with some rain. For short distances, we used the CityCycle bicycles (only $2 for 24 hours for up to 30 minutes). The travel guide said that Fortitude Valley was Brisbane's new trendy district. We biked there to take a look. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm this. We didn't like the neighborhood and somehow felt uncomfortable (there were strange people on the streets). Afterwards, we took the CityCat from Teneriffe to the Eat Street Northshore Market. This market takes place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You have to take the CityCat to the last stop and walk about 2-3 minutes to the entrance. It's a very nice market, but admission is charged. There is plenty of food and drinks to choose from, and there are different bands playing on multiple stages.

The next day, we booked another relocation. This time a motorhome from Apollo. The destination is Cairns within 4 days.
