It is done. The last hotel route has been ridden.
Towards the end, it was quite a challenge. At one point, I was so weak that I could have rolled backward multiple times. But let's start from the beginning.
The start was excellent. The trio of good weather, good paths, and good fitness (even though I usually feel good in the mornings) was there. That's why the initial phase was fast despite the inclines (see photo). So, I had a late breakfast and continued until I finally had my lunch break in Brilon. The plan was to have the break two villages earlier, but there was only a hairdresser and two car dealerships. Strange monopoly situation.
Just before the break, it got exciting again because I was still at nearly 200 meters in altitude until around kilometer 70. By the time of the break, it was 400 meters.
After the break, as expected, there was a shortcut that was worth it despite the life-threatening downhill jungle. And then I was back at 300 meters in altitude. Finally, 15 (!) kilometers before the destination, it went up to 700 meters. I sweated a lot towards the end. I quickly treated myself to a round on the toboggan run and went directly up to Kahlen Asten at 850 meters in altitude. Very cool and windy, but there was still enough for a photo session, even though I had expected a better view. It's great for hiking and mountain biking though.
Ate well one last time, and that was it. Tomorrow back to Haan to head home on Thursday. Cycling won't be easy with the predicted strong winds and rain showers. So, it might get uncomfortable again, maybe there will be some beautiful pictures. At least the day starts with hopefully a good breakfast on-site, as an exception to end the journey.
