We arrived in Beijing safely! We were worried about experiencing jet lag like we did a few years ago in Japan, which turned us into half zombies - but fortunately, we were spared this time (despite getting zero sleep on the plane).
The way to the hotel is quite easy and we quickly notice: many things are well organized here in China. It's almost impossible to do something wrong. There is staff on every corner to show you the right way. We get used to it almost too quickly: we become a bit lazy in thinking and part of a seemingly obedient flock of sheep.
Back to the program: we decide to visit Tian'anmen Square and arrive just in time for the daily flag-lowering ceremony - for this, the main street is closed every day so a group of soldiers can cross. We find ourselves in a sea of domestic tourists who have also come for this moment. There were different reactions to observe, but most took it with humor. Nevertheless, every moment had to be captured on their phones....
Afterwards, the square was immediately cleared by the police (they probably don't like having too many people on Tian'anmen Square...). So we moved on to find something to eat, including the Weifujiang Snack Street: lots of delicious food, but also some off-putting options. In the end, we went to have delicious dumplings. A perfect ending for the first day.
