I now have to say a few words about last night, which didn't go very smoothly. I had just reached the right level of drowsiness when I almost fell out of bed again. It was like being at Ballermann. Very loud music. Full blast. I asked at the reception and was told that this bar always plays very loud music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, until three or four in the morning. I made it clear to the lady that I couldn't sleep like this and that we need to find a solution. I was then given a room in the annex building across the street. The room is not as nice, but quieter.
The next morning I took the local minibus on an unpaved road to Cabuya, 7 km away. The Cabo Blanco National Park is located behind this small town. The entrance fee is $12. The three-kilometer loop trail is called the Danish hiking trail. The Swedish hiking trail leads 5 km to the beach. It is classified as difficult on the difficulty scale. In my opinion, this is completely justified.
It goes up and down through the beautiful national park, constantly crossing high rocks and stairs, and also paying attention to roots.
The endpoint, i.e. the beach, is fantastic. I find a hammock and make myself comfortable in it. Looking up, I see the coconuts hanging directly above me on the tree. Now I can only hope that they don't fall down. That would be life-threatening.
Even two fresh water showers have been installed here. There are also tables and benches for picnicking. It took me 1 1/2 hours for this distance of about 5.5 km.
A iguana is walking on the beach, posing very elegantly. It takes me a bit longer on the way back because I see capuchin monkeys, a beautiful butterfly, and hear howler monkeys again and again. It almost sounds like lions roaring.
In this 12 km² national park, there is a humid microclimate. I am soaked! The park is also called an "absolute" nature reserve because it was not allowed to be entered until the 1980s. Now it is limited to two hiking trails and the park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Then I go to the town and find a small restaurant to replenish my energy. I get delicious spaghetti Cabuya style and also order a milkshake. The generous portion of spaghetti costs €8 and the milkshake costs €3.20. There is also an additional 10% for service. Prices here are generally at a European level. Then I wait for the bus that goes to Montezuma. It takes 45 minutes for the seven-kilometer journey. On the hilly, unpaved road, it only moves slowly. I think that a good runner could cover the same distance in the same time.
