The travel tribulations have already been worth it 100% for Sydney. The city offers so much incredible variety that we fell in love with it immediately. But let's start from the beginning:
On the way to our hotel by train, almost too tired to keep our eyes open, suddenly the view of the Sydney Opera House. Wide awake and super excited, we couldn't wait to explore the city. We quickly found our way around and could orient ourselves right away. Sydney is very diverse and offers everything your heart desires.
To name just a few key points:
- built on hilly landscapes with impressive cliffs
- a metropolis of millions (we generally love city life)
- the harbor with busy boat traffic
- seaplanes taking off and landing in the harbor
- beaches for surfing and relaxation
- numerous parks as recreational areas
- many small shops, cafes, and restaurants, just what you can wish for
- the gay and lesbian scene is large and Sydney is known for its openness
We watched a performance in the concert hall of the Opera, a must-do when you're there! :)
Every day we had this "wow effect" again and thought to ourselves - "it can't get any better" - but it always did.
Lucky us!
Australians are incredibly nice and helpful. As soon as we tell them that we are from Austria, they immediately respond with "Oh - Schnapps and Skiing".
The absolute highlight was, of course, New Year's Eve.
