Busan/South Korea

3.4.2024 Busan

I left the ship shortly before 9 a.m. I struggled on foot through the rain to my chosen destination: the Busan Tower.

This time Google Maps let me down and refused to show me a route. At least my destination was visible most of the time and I arrived shortly after 10 a.m. Although it was a little clouded by the rain, I had a good view of the city and the harbor. I could also see my ship clearly.

Afterwards I visited the floor below the observation deck. The "Flying Submarine" there is probably mainly intended for children.

After a walk through the park where the tower stands, I set my sights on the "Lotte" Department Store.

There I bought a rain jacket because I was a bit cold. I also bought shoes and tissues. Then I waited until 12:00 to admire the "highest musical water show in the world".

The mall's restaurant area was very busy and there were lots of choices. I decided to go to a small local restaurant instead, so I left the mammoth ten-story department store. I suddenly found myself in a long underground mall. An exit led me to daylight, and as I walked toward the harbor I discovered a street full of restaurants. I chose a Korean one, which served me very satisfactorily for the equivalent of just USD 6.00. The food came as a kit with no instructions, and I'm sure I should have done a few things differently, but since no one there spoke English, I made the best of it, enjoying the spicy pork with rice and some vegetables, leaving the leaves and seaweed untouched.

Afterwards I had to take a long detour around a large construction site to reach the ship shortly after 2 p.m.

In the evening, the juggler James Bustar performed. To be honest, I've had enough of jugglers by now.

Bad news from Taiwan: The island we had visited just three days before was hit by a severe earthquake.
