BLOG 9 - Stewart-Cassiar HWY Part 2 into Yukon

After the “sidestep” to Stewart & Hyder, we are heading further north on the Stewart-Cassiar Highway towards the Yukon. The larger part of the approximately 800 km long HWY still lies ahead of us.

The character of the landscape doesn't change that much, only Jade City offers variety. Jade is still mined in the immediate vicinity today - there is even a reality television series 'Jade Fever' about it, which is shown on German TV channels, starring the 'original' people. Actually, the 'village' Jade City consists only of the sales shop and a simple guest house. Here the stones are cut roughly only, the carving work is done in China... Nevertheless, a bear made of jade about 10 cm long costs about 1,200 CAN-$ here.

Just before we hit the Alaska Highway, we leave British Columbia and enter the Yukon Territory.
