7th day, from Zahara to Algecias

Publicados: 04.04.2023

Today again about 60 km and 800hm. The weather was cloudy with a cold and strong Atlantic wind. After waking up and preparing the bikes, we had breakfast, coffee and jam sandwiches. It started around 09:00, we planned the route with Komoot and Google Maps for comparison. The small comment 'the route may include pushing sections' demanded a lot. After the first 10 kilometers, we had a pushing section of about 2 km, through soft sand with heavy bikes, really exhausting. At lunchtime, we looked at the remaining route in satellite view and compared it, and found that both route planners described the further route as 'bike-friendly'. That was the next mistake, we tried it but gave up after a little over 2 km. Even a professional mountain biker without luggage would not have been able to do the path. We then took the steep country road. Here I have to give credit to the Spanish drivers, most of them really take care of cyclists and only pass when they can keep a distance of over 2 meters, very relaxed.

We arrived in Algecias and checked into the hostel reserved in the afternoon. From the very simple hostel, we have a view of Gibraltar, which will be on the tour tomorrow.

Now I'll stop, Pepe is done showering and we're hungry.
