Unique Cano Negro

Publicados: 09.11.2019

Our trip today takes us to Cano Negro, which translates to black creek. Cano Negro is part of the Rio Frio, which flows into Lake Nicaragua.

Here at Cano Negro, we are only about 9 km away from Nicaragua.

Extremely high humidity and high temperatures make us sweat a lot.

This dampens the anticipation of what awaits us, but in no way.

Right at the beginning of our boat trip, the sky opens its floodgates and it pours down. A tropical shower, which happens here every day.

Soon the weather clears up again and we start our search for the countless species of animals that are here.

Cano Negro is a wildlife refuge. Unlike a national park, people are allowed to live here.

We see countless birds, small bats hanging on a trunk in the water. They look strange. Then finally the first monkeys come into our field of vision. They are spider monkeys. They are playfully climbing in the treetops. Whether baby monkey or adult male, they all seem to have a great time.

We see countless iguanas, a cayman, which is related to alligators, is chilling on a tree trunk, blue butterflies flying, and some small birds using our boat as a ride.

The funny highlight of this trip on Cano Negro are two spider monkeys running across the grass. Like humans, they walk upright. This offers us a great show.

The crowning finale is a howler monkey who is a kind of albino and a female howler monkey who has obviously taken a liking to the bachelor. Whether they will find each other? Unfortunately, we will not find out. Absolutely impressive are the sounds these animals make.

The cheeky capuchin monkeys are so fast that we can hardly catch a glimpse.

Unfortunately, we do not see sloths, but we have several opportunities to go on the search.

This great excursion, which we booked through Canoa Aventura, a family business, ends with a delicious lunch.

We take home beautiful memories of the incredibly beautiful landscape and the enormous biodiversity in Cano Negro.

Tomorrow, the hanging bridges are on the program.

We are excited.
