Today's tour could also be called a bike tour of long straightaways or a bike tour of avenues. From the feeling, I had the impression that I was going from avenue to avenue. They simply differed in the type of trees. And never before, as far as I can remember, have there been such long straightaways as today. At one point it was 18 kilometers and shortly thereafter another 10 kilometers. There were many more that were simply a little shorter. However, the way to Oldenburg did not lead through any other village. All the paths led outside of towns. It was only in Holland that there were villages to cross.
The path that followed a canal was particularly beautiful. There was even an avenue with water on both sides. I also took a picture of that for you. However, if I had taken a picture of every avenue, it would take you 10 minutes to look at all of them. The avenues were very different in terms of the type of trees. I particularly liked the birch trees with their white bark.
In Kayhauserfeld, I saw a hedge with many flowers for the first time today. I almost felt like I was in the Selegermoor, which is known for its azaleas and rhododendrons. Here, it seemed to me that these plants also grow wild. For a long time, I also saw these beautiful flowers in the forest or in open hedges. The reason for that is the peat soil, which provides the ideal conditions. It was nice that I came through this area during the blossoming season.
Although the wind blew a little stronger today, it didn't bother me much. The many hedges, bushes, and trees protected me well from the side wind. There were even stretches where the wind came from the side or even directly from behind. That gave me the feeling that there was no wind at all. Because I was driving at the same speed as the wind coming from behind.
Did you know that there is also an Emmen in Holland? It was new to me, but it seems to be a big and important city. Not far from the hotel, there is a festival with many stands. I'm going there right away to treat myself to some culinary delights. 😋
I found the border crossing particularly funny, which is complemented by a nice rest area. It used to be the crossing for smugglers, as a plaque informs. You can also find pictures of that.
