Namibia 2024: Where the desert meets the sea
Today we have a typical day of driving ahead of us. We usually try to split our trip into small stages, but in such a large country, unfortunately, it is not always possible to avoid it.
Our journey takes us about 350km over dusty gravel tracks to Swakopmund, where the desert ends directly in the sea.
The landscape changes almost behind every hill and offers us a lot of variety.
The condition of the road is constantly changing and this time again requires a lot of concentration from the driver,
That's why Carsten and I take turns.
We stop in Solitaire and fill up with water and diesel.
This is the Namibian ATU!
The tools here are a bit antediluvian, but we know from the past that all you need to straighten a rim is two sledgehammers and you're done!
Some cars were no longer repairable and were stranded there.
As an additional treat, there are 4 pieces of apple pie for take away.
It is said to be world famous and we want to see for ourselves.
…unfortunately awesome 😋
After about 4:30 hours we see the sea!!
Somehow unreal, since we were just in one of the driest deserts in the world.
The outskirts of Swakopmund have changed a lot in recent years.
A fairly modern road network was built around the city.
Otherwise everything is as usual:
Old District Court
customs office
Hotel-Restaurant
Brewery
Eagle Pharmacy
And much more.
This is the most German city outside of Germany.😂
Heirs of the colonial era!
We check in at Villa Margarita.
We already stayed here in 2017.
Afterwards we go to Tiger Reef for sundowner and dinner.
So our driving day is already over.
Brush your teeth and go to bed.
We have already planned another highlight for tomorrow 🙏🙏🙏
