At the Cavaroque winery in Monbazillac

Publicados: 24.09.2023

The day started sunny, but the weather app already showed the following band of rain. For us that meant leaving the Pyrenees and the Basque Country behind us and using the day for a few kilometers.

First, a coffee in the nice village square of Tardets-Sorholus and the choice of the next place. This fell on a 16th century winery in the southern Périgord (Périgord Pourpre), whereby the goal of staying a little longer in one place was shifted again, as such places are usually intended for one night. The path took us along various départementales (main roads) towards the northwest, occasionally accompanied by intense rain showers. The good thing about it was that we finally got rid of the dried dirt and mud in the wheel arches of the Bardena Reales.

The landlady of the Cavaroque winery greeted us distantly and asked us whether we were aware that she was only selling remaining stocks. To try there was only one red wine and two sweet white wines (typical for the region). Yes, I read and we would like to go for a wine tasting.

A second couple, French, joined us for the wine tasting and I practiced my French conversation again (thanks Sibylle, for this wonderful expression!). The landlady is slowly thawing, has lived on the winery for 50 years and is happy to have found a successor for the vines and, above all, to have a quiet time on her farm with the freshly built pool. We left the wine tasting with lots of tips for the area and a case of delicious wine.
