10.11.-16.11.2021 Querétaro & San Miguel de Allende

Publicados: 26.11.2021

From Taxco to Queretaro (4 nights)

Queretaro is another beautiful colorful city at 1800 meters. I constantly felt exhausted there, and apparently some people are affected by the altitude, whether it was really the case or just my poor condition, I don't know.

I met Gabriel (USA) at the Gabriel Hostel, and we took a trip to Tequisquiapan, which is one of the Pueblos Magicos (magical towns).

Gabriel and I desperately needed a scarf, it's so cold at night!

Pueblos Magicos are usually very beautiful towns with special cultural features, there are 130 of them in Mexico. Tequisquiapan is known for its wine and cheese. So we took a detour to a winery and had a small tour and wine tasting. Since Mexicans generally like sweet stuff (especially cola), they mainly produce sweet wines.

Other than that, I spent a lot of time walking around the city and on the rooftop terrace of the hostel - everything was very cozy. I learned that I don't have to visit all the sights if I don't feel like it.

Trying to write a travel diary every day

From Queretaro to San Miguel de Allende (2 nights)

I would say San Miguel de Allende is the most beautiful city I have seen on this trip so far, but unfortunately without a compelling atmosphere. The city is overrun by Americans, so San Miguel is also more expensive. You must visit the city, but definitely one day is enough for it, I spent 2 nights here. The most impressive thing is the "Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel" church.

What was also really nice and surprising is that I met Alexis, whom I met in Puerto Escondido, for an overpriced lemonade (4€, I usually pay that much for a meal, just not in San Miguel).

Casa de los Soles (Hotel with lots of suns)

I met Lucy from Germany at the hostel, at first I was a bit annoyed to meet so many Germans, but after a few weeks without dear Germans, I was really happy to have someone I get along with and can talk to in German. Even though my English is good, sometimes I reach my limits and can't express myself as I would like. Together we visited a botanical garden, which was full of cacti and spiders.
