Last day in Buenos Aires

Publicados: 21.10.2018

No matter how big the city is, the main attractions are concentrated around the Plaza de Mayo. Some people are more focused on the nightlife. I did that yesterday in a rather simple bar from the outside. Inside, the atmosphere was good, nice mainly young people, good earthy rock music, finest craft beer, the snacks are great too, so I was even there 2 times yesterday in the late afternoon after sightseeing - I was thirsty, but I still had to go to the laundry and later to a place where it was much busier. But the beer selection was also ...

Today initially sunny, later rainy again. I attended a solemn church service in the Cathedral at Plaza de Mayo with wonderful choir music. After that, I visited the Casa Rosada Museum, which is practically located under the government building and shows historical vaults and everything about the presidents of Argentina. Including Perón and Evita. The 1955 Cadillac was impressive. Argentina has a very eventful and not easy history, that's all I can say briefly, anything else would be too much. I also took the subway called Subte, which has been operating since 1913 (!). The network spans the city with 6 lines. The stations are mostly beautifully decorated with colored tiles. The trains are okay and functional, even if not brand new. The ticket system is modern: simple and efficient. You have to buy an electronic card to be able to ride at all. No stamping and zone chaos. Buying the card with credit cost me 115 pesos (2.73€). The ride itself costs around 30 cents. Can't complain about that! The only downside was a fight between drunk or drugged people, which also met with rejection and incomprehension from local passengers. Fortunately, nothing worse happened.

In the evening, I went out again to nearby San Telmo. There is really one bar after another here. Nice restaurants, music pubs in old buildings. A samba-like drum group marched through the streets, stopped traffic, and later, when I came out of the restaurant of my choice, they stopped in front of a corner pub, perhaps hoping for a ransom to make them stop. They played well, but after a short time, you get annoyed.
