We spent just one more night in Medellin and then flew to the Caribbean coast on the 14th. Our first destination here was Cartagena, where we stayed for 3 nights. Cartagena is hot and very humid - just our thing. On the first day here, we just walked around the city and let all the impressions sink in.
We continued our city tour the next day. We also visited Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, which has a relatively high entrance fee of 25,000 COP. However, there are hardly any signs inside that explain anything, so you walk around relatively clueless. But the fortress itself was very beautiful, even though it was very hot that day.
On the 16th, we had a relaxing day at the beach, even though the beach here is not really nice. It was still relaxing. In the evening, we booked a trip on a 'party boat': you take a smaller boat to the harbor, the music is loud and all drinks are included...
That made the journey to Santa Marta on the 17th even more exhausting than it already was. The stated 5 hours could of course not be kept and we needed about 6.5 hours with many stops. Hans again got the best seat: sweat water was dripping on him during the journey. We couldn't move because the bus was full. Nevertheless, we arrived in Santa Marta healthy and somewhat lively and then made our way to our accommodation.
