Today we had to pack our suitcases at Cape Diem Lodge in Cape Town. After 5 days it wasn't too difficult for us, especially since we also said goodbye to Studers yesterday (who are flying back to Switzerland today). We were able to experience two and a half intense and amazing weeks with them in South Africa. We enjoyed it and appreciated it.
We took the highway and the N1 to get to Paarl, where we first visited the 'Spice Routes'. We enjoyed a chocolate tasting (our chocolate needs are covered until the end of our vacation).
After that, we took the last 15 minutes to get to 'de Leeuwenhof Estate' and settled into Stable 1. It's a beautiful and peaceful vacation resort here in the countryside.
The owners and staff are very committed to the environment and also operate a voluntary firefighting and rescue service on a private basis, as the infrastructure in Paarl does not provide what is actually needed. It is also important to know that Paarl has increased from just under 150,000 inhabitants to over 450,000 in recent years. Many of the newly arrived residents are neither registered nor paying taxes accordingly.
We are enjoying the afternoon here in the shade by the pool and looking forward to the steak evening in our own restaurant.
