New Year and a few days in Osorno

Publicados: 15.01.2022

31.12. The Mapuche woman takes us through her small kingdom shortly before our departure and tells us something about her culture. It's very interesting. The climbers at the next table tell us about Valle de Cochamo that we absolutely must visit. Julio has already told us about it and we put it on our to-do list. The drive to Osorno is unspectacular, but we have to kill 5 more hours before we can check into the cabin. First, we want to go out for sushi. The 40 +2 sushi rolls that we eagerly order are with avocado, cream cheese, large, and fried, and not necessarily what we expected, but they are delicious and will nourish us for two more days. ;) It takes a whopping 2 hours until we find a Cerveceria because the entries on Google Maps lead nowhere. The bar we finally find in the suburbs is full of men and Amelia has a tough time being the only woman.

The booked cabin is located in a "rich" area of the city and is really great. The owner also made a conversion error USD-CLP and therefore the small apartment is available for 37 CHF per night! We inquire about a restaurant for New Year's Eve because we couldn't find one that we liked and was open. The owner's daughter makes a call and reserves a table for us at a nearby restaurant that offers a New Year's menu. We are not disappointed and get a nice three-course meal including an aperitif and wine. We don't make it to midnight and go to bed at 23:00.

1.1. Happy New Year! We wish everyone a wonderful start to the new year. Today, we're not doing anything except using the phone. Being lazy is beautiful!

2.1. We visit the city of Valdivia, which is about 2 hours away, because it was recommended to us by the climbers in Llifen. But the city doesn't have much to offer except for the river tours and the sea lions lying around at the harbor. However, the food in an Italian restaurant is first-class. Back in Osorno, we end the evening with a movie.

3.1. Today is also about lounging around and doing some shopping. On the way to the supermarket, we pass a circus tent and decide to attend a show tonight. It's a family circus (all artists are related) and it certainly doesn't have the quality of Montis. The jokes are a bit flat and I even get to go into the ring with two others to imitate the movements of the clown, what an honor! ;)
