Tag 44: Great Ocean Road (Princetown - Apollo Bay)

Publicados: 06.12.2016

We can't part with the beautiful rock formations of the Great Ocean Road and drive back to the Twelve Apostles after breakfast. We were there in the evenings for the last two days and now we want to see them during the day. The weather is great, so our decision was definitely worth it.

Next stop is the Gibson Steps. Here we can go down to the beach again. We take off our shoes and explore the beach and the rocks.

We really liked this section of the Great Ocean Road and could have stayed here a bit longer. But we have to keep going because there is still a long way to Sydney.

Despite the late hour, we decide to make a detour to Johanna Beach, a popular surf spot. Unfortunately, we don't see any surfers (they're probably still at work). The sea is also roaring here and the two men jump into the waves. Maxima and I watch from a safe distance.

We still want to make a detour to the lighthouse at Cape Otway. Unfortunately, the visit is only possible until 5 p.m. and we arrive at 6 p.m. to find the gates closed. So we turn back and drive towards Apollo Bay. The drive through the Otway National Park is very diverse. There is a lot of forest, bizarre dead trees, and gentle hills. We also spot a koala. It crosses the road right in front of us and then settles down on a tree.

We arrive at Marengo Holiday Park at 7:30 p.m. The reception is already closed, but we can check in over the phone. We cook dinner and Michi and Samuel explore the playground, which is right across from our camping spot.
