To be honest, I don't really know where to start. We saw sooo much, so I'll start with the beginning of the day. Unfortunately, we didn't start until about 10:30 am because my father just wasn't ready. Somehow, today wasn't his day. After we finally started, we were in the city within 15 minutes and the first destination was the 'White House.'
It seems pretty close here, but it's actually quite far away and very well-guarded, which it naturally has to be. We were lucky that Obama was even there, as you can see from the flag being raised. It's truly powerful. Right next to the White House was the next landmark, the Department of Treasury.
After that, we continued on Pennsylvania Street and saw several other beautiful buildings. I can already see that this blog post contains more pictures than written text :)
If you want to learn more about the Capitol, feel free to read this description. I photographed it especially for you because I didn't have time to read it myself.
Since it was soooo extremely hot at noon, we decided to go back to our accommodation for lunch, eat there, and take a nap ('gruaba,' as some Swabians would say). But before we went back, we were curious and wanted to see the back view of the White House, and behold, we could get much closer to the White House.
At around 5 pm, my mother came up with the brilliant idea that we should go to the Air Space Museum because it was free, and she lured us with the argument that you can touch a real moonstone there. So we went back to the city to the Air Space Museum. On the way there, there were, of course, various buildings that looked impressive and powerful from the outside, such as the Museum of American Indian History.
I won't say too much about this because there is so much to admire rather than describe. Highlights included a glimpse into the cockpit of a large commercial aircraft or insights into a space shuttle. I could now post 100 pictures here because there was just so much to see! Unbelievable that this museum was free.
