On November 24th, I flew from Ushuaia to Buenos Aires to meet my mom.
Buenos Aires is a beautiful city. Incredibly modern, great buildings, cafes, and squares. Our hostel was near "Calle Defensa", a cozy street for strolling with historic pubs.
In the afternoon, I met my mom and her cousin at Café Tortoni, which was opened in 1858 by a French immigrant. Mom's cousin flew back to Germany in the late afternoon, and we spent two lovely and cozy days in Buenos Aires. My favorite neighborhood was "La Boca". It reminds me a bit of the Schanzenviertel in Hamburg. Many houses are colorfully painted. You can buy artisanal crafts everywhere. There are also many small bars and cafes with tango and tango dancers.
A special highlight was the restaurant "Don Julio", a Parrilla. We had to wait two hours to get a table, but we were provided with champagne and empanadas. They only served steaks. My mom wanted to eat a T-bone steak, but since it weighs 800 grams, she decided against it and had a loin instead, and I had a rump steak. But it was still too much, so it was impossible to finish it.
On November 26th, we flew to Bariloche. Since we wanted to go to the south of Argentina and the distances are quite large, we had to fly again. Bariloche could also be a small town in Switzerland. The place is known for chocolate fondue and consists of many wooden houses with a small city center. In the evening, we accidentally ended up at a church concert by various choirs from all over Argentina and then had goulash with spaetzle 😂. The next day, we took a boat tour to the Lagos Frios. However, it was rather disappointing as it was extremely loud and crowded with people pushing each other around. On Monday, we continued by bus for 11 hours to the city of Perito Moreno.
