The end of Sri Lanka and I'm alone again, alone

Publicados: 21.11.2018

After driving from the highlands to the very warm south by bus, we enjoyed some relaxing days. In Tangalle, we spent a few days in a super cozy bungalow right on the beach. With the ocean and the roaring waves at our doorstep, I felt like I was transported to Goa. However, you can't just jump into the water wherever you want here. Besides rocks, there are also dangerous undercurrents, which can abruptly end the fun in the water. But there are designated swimming areas and they are pretty cool. A shallow reef just a few meters from the shore shields the waves and currents, creating a natural pool. Here, you can splash around without worries and let yourself be carried by a safe current. To top off the relaxation, Simone tried an Ayurveda massage. Content and pleasantly fragrant, she returned afterwards.

After this beautiful spot on earth, we continued to Unawatuna. A small lively tourist town with many restaurants and bars on the beach. But we were drawn into the water to the waves. Just a few kilometers away, a local surfer recommended a good spot to us. Thanks to his connections, we also got an unbeatable price for renting the boards. We only paid 1.50 euros for an hour. With this bargain, we could stay the entire day and improve our limited surfing skills. Exhausted and satisfied, we slept particularly well that evening.

The last leg of our journey took us to Negombo. Unfortunately, it took longer than expected to reach it by the local train, so we could only check into our accommodation late in the afternoon. The beach cannot beat the previous ones, but we still enjoyed a beautiful sunset once again. Together, we spent the last hours of our journey reminiscing while enjoying curry and seafood, and already making plans for a return to this enchanting country, which is also called 'the teardrop of India'.

Two days later, I also set off for new horizons and painfully realize that the last four weeks of my adventure are now beginning.
