Tag 277: (North) Vancouver

The sky is gray. The waves are lashing against the ship and the wind is cold around my ears. In the distance, I see dark mountains disappearing into the fog. I am standing on the deck of a ferry that is taking us across the Straight of Georgia from Vancouver to Vancouver Island. More specifically, from North Vancouver to Nanaimo. Twelve days ago, we landed in Vancouver and settled in an Air-BnB in North Vancouver. From here, we have been enjoying ourselves and taking a small break from traveling. Shopping, cooking, walks with the dog in the park, drawing, and many relaxed days with Netflix in bed. But we haven't been completely idle and have explored Vancouver in all its autumn glory.

Granville Island: The small peninsula in the heart of Vancouver has a lot to offer in terms of art, design, and cuisine. With mouths open, we strolled through the colorful halls of the food market, enjoying the aroma of delicious food. After some very good snacks, we sat down on a park bench in the afternoon sun with our dessert. A musician played sensuous guitar, children played and danced in the red and yellow leaves. To digest, we took a walk through the many art and souvenir shops.

Lynn Canyon Park: A densely forested green forest, towering fir trees, a crystal clear river, a canyon, a suspension bridge. Perfect for a relaxing autumn walk.

Stanley Park: Canada's largest urban park gave us a magical day. We walked for hours on the 200km network of walking paths and were surprised at every turn. The incredibly tame wildlife, the forest shining in all autumn colors, the natural lakes, and the clear waterfront with a view of the snow-covered mountains.

It is cold in Vancouver. Quite unusual for us. But Canada's most famous city convinces with other means. Canadians are super friendly, always willing to help. The bus drivers are greeted with a loud 'Thank you!' Homeless people are given food by the locals, it is clean and organized. A metropolis in perfect balance between breathtaking nature and a functioning city.

On Vancouver Island, we will be working and living on a kind of farm for the next two weeks. We are very excited to see what awaits us.
