The week started very strong and then went downhill a bit. Originally I wanted to spend two days in Taupō and then do my first big 4-day hike. When I arrived in Taupō, I immediately liked the small town and checked into a great hostel. Fell straight into the hammock and met a girl who also signed up for the hike. The next day we did a 24km hike along the river to Huka Falls. At the end there were natural hot springs where you could sit in, which was perfect after the long hike.
The next day was a chill day, which was also great in the hostel because you had a bed with your own cabin, like a small room. I was finally able to drink coffee in bed again in the morning🥰☕️
Unfortunately, we found out that our hike had to be canceled due to extremely high winds and rain. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible for either of us to move dates because the next hostels were already booked, which is why we took the setback of €70 and simply canceled it. Since our great anticipation had turned into maximum frustration within five minutes, we had to come to terms with it first😂 We were actually planning on doing the bulk shopping for the hike in PaknSave (like Metro, I love it) and repacking the backpacks etc.
The first thing I did was eat sushi at the Japan Deli, I love it here, they sell sushi here in a buffet style and you pay per piece and you actually get super full for €8🤌🏼They also have such great, unusual sushi and the salmon is delicious different because it is much fresher 🫣(shoutout @Hanna, you would love it):
Unfortunately, since the weather turned extremely grey, rainy and cold over the next two days, I struggled a bit not to let the overall situation get me down. But no matter, everything can't always go according to plan! First I found a swimming pool and went swimming, and then I went back to the hot springs, which were completely empty because of the rain😍 I sat there in the waterfall for probably 2 hours until a few friends from Auckland came along coincidentally happened to be in Taupō. I spent the rest of the day reading and cooking something delicious.
It wasn't a whole week, but today we're going to Wellington, the capital, for a week, so I thought I'd make a cut here🌞
