Unfortunately, the beautiful weather has left us and it is very overcast and raining a lot. In Kaikoura, we spent 2 days with fog and clouds. On our arrival on January 30th, we went whale watching and actually saw whales and dolphins up close. The next day, we hiked 15 km around the Kaikoura peninsula and discovered a seal colony and learned a lot about shearwaters, which only breed in New Zealand and are intentionally cared for there.
Today we reached our final destination Picton before we cross over to the North Island tomorrow on the ferry.
Picton is a small, charming harbor town in the north and serves as the gateway to the Malborough Sounds, a network of sea arms.
The main focus of the harbor is the ferry traffic between the North and South Island. In addition, there is a fairly large yacht harbor.
