After the break in Samsun, I wanted to tackle a longer stage today. Hamdi and Elif told me about a beautiful place in Yason where their son had camped a few years ago. There were about 140 kilometers to cover until then, but I couldn't leave the hotel before half past nine.
First, I went on the main road towards the east, the first short break was only at the port of Ünye. From Fatsa, I diverged from the main road and the path changed into a narrow serpentine road along the coast. Just before my campsite, I met Rob, a British bike traveler who was heading in the opposite direction. He got stuck in Georgia for eight months due to the closed land border between Georgia and Azerbaijan until he recently turned back. Let's see if I have more luck! Shortly after sunset, I arrived at the Yason lighthouse, my sleeping place for today. What Hamdi and Elif didn't tell me was that it was a tourist attraction with cafes nearby. But that didn't bother me too much at a late hour, and I still set up my tent right in the middle of the square. At night, I heard a few visitors who noticed my bike and tent, but then it was quiet for the rest of the night.
