We finally did a resting day on July 1st and took the time for planning the next days. When we actually went out to visit the Canmore museum, we noticed we totally forgot it’s Canada Day! Almost everyone was dressed in red and white (even the dogs with little Canada flag headdresses etc.) and people were lining up along the streets to watch the parade in Canmore. Of course we joined in. It was really fun to watch everyone in good mood. A lot of marching bands and color guards were participating and the mayor rode on a horse dressed in Indigenous clothes. Apparently it’s also tradition to splash water around, so it also involved a couple of people with water squirt guns (the Canmore fire department nailed it, of course). After the parade we were just strolling in downtown. So mostly a lazy day all in all.
