Peru - the journey continues

ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ: 24.04.2018

I spend two more days with Elisa in La Paz, in the wild hustle and bustle of the big city. When Elisa's flight home is due, saying goodbye at the airport is not easy for me. So I immediately take the next destination in hand and make my way to Peru by bus. My first stop is in Puno, on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca.

From now on, I am on my own, my French friend Marine will stay in Bolivia for a while longer. But from the beginning, I realize that as a backpacker, you are never alone. On the first bus ride, I meet two new friends: a sibling pair from Sao Paulo. Together, we explore Lake Titicaca and visit the "floating islands" of the lake.

About 4,000 Uros (that's what the inhabitants of the floating islands are called) still live on the islands made of reed. The dried plant is piled up to a thickness of about 2 meters until the floating island is formed. With every step, you sink into the soft ground, what a funny feeling!

Even though the excursion is very touristy overall, the visit to the islands and the indigenous people living on them is very interesting.
