Hello hello,
After a rather short and turbulent night (three stolen mobile phones, one found again, thank God mine! 😰), we checked out of our hotel around 10:30 a.m., walked 400 meters further down the street, and checked into the new hostel.
We jumped into the pool first for a refreshing swim. Then we were taken to the 'Turtle Conversation And Education (tcec)' station by two employees of 'Gojek', a company that offers cost-effective transportation services.
Upon arrival, we were able to observe the turtles, feed them, and even hold them in our hands. The entire team at 'tcec' takes care of injured and sick turtles from the sea. They collect them, provide the necessary medication, and nurse them back to health before releasing them back into the ocean. In addition, the (volunteer) staff collects turtle eggs from the beach, as the high amount of litter and tourism makes it difficult for baby turtles to survive. They bring the eggs to the station, where the turtles can safely hatch. After two weeks, the little ones are taken to the sea and left to fend for themselves. 'Tcec' also offers a baby turtle adoption program, which Mareike and I would have loved to participate in. However, turtles do not lay eggs between mid-January and the entire month of February, so very few baby turtles can hatch at the moment 😟.
Back at the hostel, we caught up on some sleep, as last night was too short.
After our power nap, we went back to the SPA 🤩 and treated ourselves to another massage. Then we strolled around the shopping center and the Hard Rock Cafe.
At 9 p.m., we had a table reserved at a very popular restaurant here in Kuta. This restaurant is consistently busy every day and at any time. Guests wait outside the door for up to an hour to be able to dine there. We didn't feel like waiting, so we simply made a reservation in advance 😅.
After eating ribs with rice and a type of fried potatoes, we understood why this restaurant is so popular! It was incredibly delicious, we haven't eaten this well in a restaurant for a long time!🥩🥵
Now we're back at the hostel and won't be doing anything else today. 😴
Sending love to Germany 🥰
Yours, Jojo
