Zanzibar was our first long-distance trip together. If I remember correctly, we were traveling for about 15 hours including a layover. There are no direct flights from Germany to Zanzibar.
Since we have a lot to tell about this trip, we will split the post and gradually tell you about our experiences on the island.
For most travelers, Zanzibar is just an 'extension' after a safari in Tanzania. But at that time, we couldn't afford a safari combined with Zanzibar. So we decided to explore Zanzibar first.
The outward flight went smoothly. The return flight, however, not so much, but more on that later. We somehow don't have much luck with return flights.
We landed at night and were welcomed at the small airport by the 'human baggage carousel' 😅. Our suitcases were rolled out one by one by the airport staff in front of our feet. After we had orientated ourselves and each had reclaimed their suitcase, we headed towards the transfer.
From the beginning, it was different from our previous vacations. Everywhere things were growing and flourishing, various creatures rustled and bustled on the roadside, and those sounds - just amazing! Completely different from the barren desert landscape of Djerba or Egypt. From the beginning, this island had something paradisiacal that captivated me.
However, as in most countries, there are a lot of eager men who want to roll your luggage to the car for you. Of course, they all want money for it and refuse to accept a 'No, thank you'. On the one hand, it is understandable, because the people there are not exactly swimming in money... But on the other hand, a bit too cheeky, at least in our opinion. No matter where.
We have met many people on Zanzibar, and many of them have shown us that they were not only interested in our money.
You can see a few of these lovely people in the picture. We are looking forward to telling you more about them in the next posts!
