The morning started just like the previous evening ended - gray and cloudy, but in good spirits.
For breakfast, we went to the restaurant in the holiday home complex, where, in addition to the obligatory porridge, there were real(!) Nuremberg sausages, baked beans, and ready-made scrambled eggs (yuck 😖), there were actually slightly crispy rolls and croissants. We also met again two German holidaymakers who are visiting their daughter in Finland and whom we already met yesterday.
After breakfast, we packed our things and reluctantly left our cottage (and the sauna..) to quickly throw in postcards and get on the bus to the train station.
Once there, we had to wait a while for the train to Kemi - Rovaniemi is not exactly the center of the world. 😅 Nevertheless, time passed quickly and soon we had completed the only train journey of the day.
In Kemi, we waited again for a while, but this time for the bus. It took us about 45 minutes to cross the border back to Haparanda in Sweden, where we had to wait for the third time and were briefly confused by the time change. Still in good spirits, we boarded the bus to Luleå and watched the passing trees and lakes for about 2.30 hours.
After finally arriving at 17:50, we made our way to the accommodation. It was only a short walk away - but at first we couldn't get in because someone apparently forgot to send us the PIN code for the door. A phone call to customer service finally brought the solution and we entered the hostel, whose hallway looks a bit like a prison.
Our room is clean but somewhat reminiscent of an underground bunker without windows. Of course, that's not a problem for one night, but it's a bit too expensive. 😬
For dinner today, we had a very delicious Italian pizza, which we treated ourselves to in a nearby restaurant. Now we're ending the evening with football (Lena) and YouTube (Anne), before going to bed and heading to Norway tomorrow!
