Historic District in Savannah, GA

The day after the slightly excessive visit to O'Connell's Pub was heralded at 9 o'clock by the alarm clock. Quickly getting up, getting ready, and then having breakfast, we headed towards the Historic District of Savannah. The weather today was supposed to be much milder and more pleasant compared to yesterday. We strolled through the streets and visited the numerous parks of the district. By the way, one of them, Chippewa Square, is where the opening scene of Forrest Gump was filmed, with Tom Hanks sitting on a bench waiting for a bus. The relatively small number of tourists contributed to the overall relaxed atmosphere in the air. Along the way, we stopped at Six Pence Pub, where we learned about a jazz festival in Fortsyth Park. Since we had already chosen this large park as our destination, it was a perfect combination. The free festival took place on a huge meadow, with the main stage at its center. The area was surrounded by various stands selling drinks and food. The space slowly filled up in the late afternoon. Most of the visitors had brought their own blankets, chairs, and refreshments, while the two of us sat on the grass like poor suckers. When the first jazz band started playing, it quickly became clear to us music philistines that this was not necessarily our kind of music. About an hour later, we finally left. After a brief stop at Six Pence Pub, we arrived at City Market, a small festive area where drinks to go were sold. By the way, it is also part of the Historic District: you are allowed to drink alcohol openly on the street here. Since our hotel was only a stone's throw away from City Market, we decided to go and get the bottles we still had in the room, along with a load of ice cubes, to cheaply enjoy them at City Market. The plan to drink less than the day before somehow didn't seem to work out...

Best regards,
